Aria

One of the first heavy metal band in the Soviet Union was Ария (Aria). In this post I would like write short history of this metal band, which not only influenced other soviet bands, but has shown the world that in USSR also are good music. Birth day of group is 31 october of 1985 when Vladimir Holstinin and Alek Granovsky started recording first album - Megalomania. In 1986 Aria start big tour over Soviet republics and in the end of 86 released they second album - Who are you with. In August 1987, Aria started working on their new album, Hero of Asphalt, which became best band album and make they famous. This album were sold over a million copies. In 1986 Aria start tour in Warsaw pact states and play few concert in Western countries.

Soviet Punks 2

In 1979 in Soviet Union uprise new underground music culture - punk, which proceed "stiliaga" existence. After formed first punk rock group - AU , punk culture diverge in two parts. First - traditional , second-
Siberian. When Gorbaciov start his "perestroika" and "glansnot" punk culture pervade all Soviet Union respublic. In 1985 was about 1000 punk rock/metal bands, of which most popular was : Sektor Gaza, Spitfire, Distemper, NAIV, Purgen.

Soviet Punks

Well... Punks was not only in Western countries, but also and in the Soviet Union, but they appeared much later. In that post, I would like to write a short story, and demonstrate some photos of "Soviet Punks".
First conspicuous people in Soviet Union originate in the end of 1950s. They were called "Стиляга" (stiliaga) which came from english word "style". "Stiliaga" were listening jazz music, using contraband perfume and dressing modern clothes.

This is reconstruction of flat where live "stiliaga":



"Stiliaga" loves american jazz performers especially Benny Goodman and Duke Ellington, and song from film "Chattanooga Choo Choo" , "Solar Valley Serenade" became "stiliaga" hymn:

"Pardon me, boy
Is that the Chattanooga Choo-Choo
Track twenty nine,
Boy, you can give me a shine"

After Stalin death "stiliaga" culture became more popular.
